I have a confession. I quite like Tim Farron. Farron is right to point out that the mess that we now find ourselves in, in respect of any Brexit negotiations, is the responsibility of David Cameron.

By offering a straight YES or NO, take it or leave it question, Cameron hoped that folk would vote to remain. His calculation backfired and Teresa May’s government has stalled for time ever since. Apparently, May intends to trigger Article 50 by the end of this week. I will believe it when I see it.

Perhaps the referendum question should have been: THE EU or EFTA? I suspect that the EFTA option would have commanded an even bigger majority than leave eventually did. That’s why Cameron refused to offer that as an option – he hoped we would vote remain.

He was right to resign.
